I was struggling to come up with
something creative for a bridal shower that I was part of a few weekends ago,
when my aunt suggested doing a wedding dress made out of cupcakes.
In total I used 27 vanilla
cupcakes. I cheated here and bought the box mix, so managed to get about 35
cupcakes out of 2 boxes.
For the butter cream icing, I used
a recipe from My Cupcake Addiction. I have been watching Elise’s YouTube channel for a few months, and her stuff looks amazing, so decided to give her recipe a try. Here is the link to the tutorial on YouTube, and here is the recipe:
850g of Icing Sugar
250g unsalted butter
1 tsp Vanilla (essence or extract)
1 - 2 tbl spoons Milk
RECIPE
850g of Icing Sugar
250g unsalted butter
1 tsp Vanilla (essence or extract)
1 - 2 tbl spoons Milk
Whip the butter for 5 minutes in a mixer (it should change colour and become almost white). Add in half of the icing sugar, then add in the vanilla, and the milk.
Add in the rest of the icing sugar, and mix for a further 5 minutes.
It was really easy to make, and
worked a treat (I did add a bit more milk in mine, as it was a bit too thick to
pipe with my piping bag). I have never gotten so many compliments on my icing
before, so this recipe is definitely my new go to icing.
I found it easier to place the
cupcakes out in the dress shape and then ice them – so that you can fill in the
gaps with icing, and you can also make the icing flow from cupcake to
cupcake – I probably should have done a trial one first – but don’t think my mistakes
were too noticeable. I would also suggest not moving it once you have iced it. I
had to take mine in a 30 minute car ride, and the icing did start to crack away
from the other cupcakes.
I dressed the cupcakes up with
some pearls and some bling and it made the whole thing come to life. . It’s so
easy to do, and it was the talk of the day. No one wanted to be the first one
to take a cupcake because no one wanted to mess it up.
